Hi again-
Heather writes about a mom with a rash under her breasts being treated for tinea versicolor. Again, I would question the diagnosis if the rash is only under her breasts-that makes me think of candida. Tinea Versicolor is a fungal infection, but not the same as candida. It gets its name because parts of the skin that are affected do not tan when exposed to sunlight, so you get this lacy/splotchy non-raised areas of hypopigmented skin in comparison to the surrounding area of tanned skin. Often, you can see a slight scaliness to the rash. This to me doesn't sound like something that would be underneath one's breasts. Also, FYI-there are other ways to treat tinea versicolor that do not involve prescription medications.

Warmly,
Stacy D. Kucharczk, MSN, RN, CPNP, IBCLC
