Thanks to Catherine for her reminder to evaluate for tongue tie in this
situation-enlightening!

Diana, Assuming that an oversupply IS the crux of this issue, have you
thought about extending the *1 breast only* time span? As I'm sure you know,
many on Lactnet have written about using this technique for as long as 12 hrs
per side-pontentially an even more effective stimulus to diminished production.
Also, I'm not sure if you mentioned........how often is this Mom feeding?
Thie idea behind this ?? being that the very frequent feeder will ramp up
production REGARDLESS of the 1 breast tactic. Thus when all else fails, measures to
encourage babe to span the feeds are often useful. I understand that you are
unsure about how much of a factor overproduction is in this case. Potentially
a longer span might help to analyze this further as the later feeds should be
from a very different, eg.emptier breast than the earlier.
One poster mentioned pumping after feeds for comfort. I don't understand
the rationale for this when dealing with overproduction??. Any and all pumping
(particularly in this case -a Mom on the verge of quitting!) , should be used
with extreme caution as all breast stimulation can result in an
exagerated response in these sensitive breasts.
Hope things have improved!
