Some moms may experience the sadness that comes from moving from one stage
to the next as the child grows.  A child weaning is a right of passage,
just like starting school, learning to ride a bike, learning to drive,
going off the college, etc.  Each is a time of fulfillment of one phase and
moving on to the next.  It signifies that the child is growing up, time is
moving forward, past enjoyment and memories are, indeed, past.

When explained to a mom in this context, she may be able to handle the
feelings of sadness in a different light.
