Wise ones one and all,

I am a LLL Leader, the Area Professional Liaison for my area, CLE , and
TOTAL lactation nerd (I take CE classes for fun) and I am breastfeeding my
3rd child (2nd one who was born at home).

Anyway, I'll keep it short. I would just like some opinions - like, yeah I
would probably try to find someone else to look at it or no, it probably
isn't anything.

My latest babe, a boy was born at home at 41 plus weeks, A two hr or less
labor after almost 24 water broken. From the First latch, it felt like he
was clamping or not getting his tongue out but I was of course, just
determined to work with him. I had some nipple soreness but not shredded or
anything scabbed. It got better but never totally right. He developed true
reflux at 2 weeks and I was overwhelmed until about now dealing with it. So,
fast forward to today. I currently have constant mild soreness ( I would say
a range of 2 to 4 on 1-10) just about all the time but I just try to pay
attention to latch and not worry about it too much. I know it isn't normal
though. I had NO pain with the other two. I have always thought it might be
tongue tie but my pediatrician said it was not.

When someone mentioned lately that the baby's tongue should go up to the
roof of the mouth when crying I looked at him today during a crying session
and noticed his tongue stays down and makes a slight "c" cupping shape but
no part of it goes up to the roof of his mouth. He sucks his tongue
sometimes and he does seem to be able to get it out to or over his bottom
lip. He took a pacifier until about last month to help with the reflux BUT
he could NEVER hold it in his mouth on his own. It had to be held in or he
would push it out or drop it. He could suck on it if held in. He is 6
months, and I would get it clipped if he needs it to avoid speech problems
later and possibly relieve some of the soreness for me.

For the record, he is growing fine but he is smaller than my other children
were. He transfers plenty of milk so it seems.

So, should I get someone or a few someones to look at it or am I just
imagining problems? If I should get someone to look at it, anyone know
someone in the Nashville, Tennessee are who would look at it and then clip
if necessary?

thanks,
micky jones
