Breastmilk is NOT a clear liquid - it contains fat, protein and over 4,000
cells per ml !
Anesthesiologists do not consider it a clear liquid.

That said, I am gradually educating my Pediatric Surgeons not to use
Pedialyte AFTER surgery.  There is some evidence in adults that early
refeeding post-op speeds healing and discharge.  There is no research
evidence that Pedialyte is either safe or effective (as opposed to
breastmilk) in reestablishing feeding after abdominal surgery.
