Jaye...how great that this mom has come to you for help and that you are
doing whatever you can to seek answers. I'm sure you'll find them!

Just a quick suggestion about helping to acheive a deep latch with a soft
squishy breast:

I know what you mean, as I have seen this too, and it is much more difficult
for mother to manipulate/support the breast when the flesh is not firm. I'm
thinking that using the traditional holds such as cradle, cross-cradle, or
football, with mom sitting up in a chair or on the bed, etc., she would need to
manipulate/support her breast MORE than if she was offering the breast in
such a way as to allow the latch to happen naturally.

I'm just thinking out loud here - forgive me if I sound naive - but I'm
wondering if you/she would have more success if she concentrated on
manipulating the BABIES into position instead of the breast?

Such as mom laying in a side-lying position and doing a modified asymmetrical
latch by simply pulling baby in and up toward her. Or mom side-lying with
baby lying supine, and mom using the breast of the opposite side she is lying
on, thereby allowing the breast to 'hang' somewhat over baby. So, if she is
lying on her right side with baby supine or side-lying beside her, mom tips her
left side over baby and offers her left breast.

Or, another thing I'm thinking might work is a modification of what we
sometimes suggest for very large breasted women, the "table" position: This
is where mom puts her breast on the table to act as a firm support and baby
is brought to the breast while lying on the table. Maybe this mother could try
something like that, only sitting on a bar stool or chair that would put her
breast slightly higher than the table, so again that her breast in hanging and
baby can reach and take a full mouthful without it trying to be stuffed in there.

Maybe I'm not making any sense...but, this is what I'd try if I myself were this
mother.

Blessings!
