..cleverly disguised as an informational video on breastfeeding. The link
is below:

As with most formula marketing, it is cleverly done. To most people it will
appear as a video giving "helpful" breastfeeding information, but of course,
they sneak in misinformation (not to mention the address for the
verybestbaby website that shows up on the screen several times during the
video). The first thing I noticed is that the positioning and latching
"info" is terrible. There is also the comment of needing to watch what you
eat, which is there of course to perpetuate the common myth that a
breastfeeding mom has to eat a restricted diet. My favourite was the comment
about needing to have someone watch your other children while you're
nursing??? And of course, "not getting enough sleep or not drinking enough
will make you lose your milk supply" (again playing on common fears about
not having enough milk). I'm sure there is more, but that is what I can
remember off of the top of my head.

The video reminds me of the "breastfeeding info" book that I received while
in hospital after delivering both of my children. It was published by one
of the big formula companies, and although there were no glaring errors in
the info given, there were comments such as "when pumping, you need to fully
expose your breasts". Wording designed of course to make a mother feel
uncomfortable with the thought of pumping. And naturally, in the middle of
the book there was a card to send in to become a member of their "club".

It's no wonder so many moms are so misinformed about breastfeeding. :(
