Hi all,

Barb wrote, "She said specifically yesterday she fed him a bottle of EBM and
within an hour he had hives on his face"

My first thought is latex allergy! If it shows up after actually nursing,
she should check her bra for latex/spandex content. I've also learned that
there's a connection between latex and certain foods like bananas, avocados,
and kiwi fruit. Since bananas are often an "early" food for babies
(previously thought to be hypoallergenic!), perhaps the allergy didn't
surface until repeated exposure to the allergen via bottle nipples and/or
baby foods.

I'm now so allergic that TOUCHING a banana causes my fingertips to swell,
and I have itching/hives if I wear anything but 100% cotton sport bras.

I would NOT recommend stopping bf--the allergy would probably only get MUCH
worse, even life-threatening. And, if it's silicone nipples, & the baby's
sensitive to THEM, be forewarned that ABM has MUCH higher levels of silicone
than breastmilk. At least, I remember reading that somewhere...

One other thought/question: what is MOM doing feeding baby EBM??? Why isn't
she putting baby to breast when she's with him?
