In regards to the safety of ABM, I had always refused to participate in an
activity which was held yearly and sponsored by a magazine that was
distributed to all the local Peds and OB's because the sponsors included
formula companies.  The editor of the magazine is a Nutritionist, and said
as this was directed to the public, she felt it necessary to include these
sponsors.  She also personally gave a 1/2 hour talk on formula bottle
preparation on safety - because she had experience of many babies being
injured by over-heated milk or incorrectly prepared bottles.  It made me
think that at least this way (she also had excellent breastfeeding
speakers) the formula didn't seem like "the most simple" solution to baby's
feeding.

Gloria's comments reminded me of two things I heard a while ago and may be
of use to the newer members of Lactnet.

1. It is a good idea NOT to ask "are you planning to breastfeed" but rather
"what have you heard about breastfeeding" which gives an oportunity to
clear up some mis-information.

2. I know that some nurses, under the guise of giving "baby feeding
classes", attracted many moms - then covered breastfeeding AND the
complications of formula preparation and safety...
