Does anyone that works with hospital policies relating to breastmilk
have any thoughts or experience in writing policies based on Standard
precautions not Universal precautions? It has been brough to my
attention (today) that the documentation that I have provided from the
CDC and OSHA are based on universal precautions that exempt breastmilk
but standard precautions do not. Still seems to me that since breast
milk is low risk for transmission to staff, the option for wearing
gloves should still remain optional and not required. I would
appreciate any feedback from those involved in policy writing for their
hospitals.
