We take the baby's weight and work out their appropraite fluid requirement
in mls per kilogram starting off at 60mls/kg increasing on a daily basis if
tolerated until at 180mls/kg.At this stage we adjust according to current
weight gains 180mls/kg as the baby should be up to full feeds with no extra
fluids such as IV fluids or TPN (parental nutrition) as well as their EBM or
formula.

For our breastfed babies its just a guideline,we don't test weight but we do
need to have some idea of the amount to offer baby when their mother is not
there to breastfeed.

The more term baby actually will get demand fed and if mum has agreed to
bottle feeds then they are generally ad lib feeds.

hope this is what you want to know.
