Theresa - YOU are not a failure!  YOU are doing everything in your power to
support this mother where she is at.  She is clearly having issues - this is
NOT YOUR fault.  Do not allow their emotional issues to leave you feeling
like you are a failure - there is nothing here that you can do to help this
mother be interested in her baby other than what you have already done.  You
cannot get inside her head and fix her emotional lack of attachment or lack
of desire to attach to her baby.

 

Is there hope?  There is always hope - but let it be in her hands to decide
what she wants to do.  You did your job and it sounds like you did it very
well.  Sometimes we do not understand why a mother is uninterested in her
baby - it seems so foreign to not want to hold, interact nurse your new
baby.but this does NOT indicate fault in you or that you didn't do something
'right'.  It just indicates that something is not working for this mother.

 

It simply is what it is.

 

Well done - sounds to me like you did a very good job.
