The mother's shooting pains could indeed be ductal yeast, especially with the recent history,but you might check to see if she has a history of fibrocystic breast lumps ( or whatever they are called) I did have a history of lumpy breasts and would periodically and randomly get these incredibly horrid shooting pains during the years I was nursing, beginning during late pregnancy. I had to pull over a stop while driving a few times the pain was so severe.I don't have any solutions for the pain other than the usual pain meds and dietary changes ( though they never helped me) and heat sometimes eased things a bit. Just an off the cuff idea.
