I'm looking for Lactnetters who might be willing to host a budding
lactation consultant from Uganda for a few days after the ILCA
Conference. Josephine, a member of ILCA sponsored by our state chapter,
is coming to the conference to speak and to learn. She is a native
Ugandan, single mother of two young daughters who got into lactation the
same way many of us did -- by nursing her own babies and wanting to help
others. She has worked tirelessly to promote and support breastfeeding
in her area of Uganda, even cutting back on her paid job in rehab to
devote more time to breastfeeding. In order to utilize her trip to the
U.S. to learn as much as she can, she has signed up for a nutrition and
wellness course by Dr. Sears' group in Denver. She will have 10 days
between ILCA and her course in Denver where she will be at loose ends.
ILCA ends Sunday, July 25 and her course in Denver starts August 5.

I was hoping that a few of you who live near those two cities would be
willing to put her up for a few days. Even better would be if she had
the opportunity to job-shadow someone who works in private practice or a
hospital. It would be wonderful for her to have the chance to learn
from an experienced lactation consultant or La Leche League Leader.
Please contact me ASAP for more information if you might consider this.
She doesn't need any fancy accommodations; she comes from a very poor
background. I'm still working on raising money for her trip and working
out travel arrangements; her flight from San Antonio to Denver can't be
arranged until I know when and where I can find hosts for her. If you'd
like to read more about her and see some pictures of her working with
mothers, please go to our website:
