Since reglan and Diflucan are some of the most controversial meds we as
L.C.'s encounter and since they are not standards of care I have had a hard
time convincing M.D.s to consider their use in the few situations they seem
indicated. The usual response is " Why would I want to use a drug that is
not in common use for the condition you suggest, is not considered safe in
lactating
mothers ie. PDR and may cause such serious side effects as liver failure
(diflucan) or depression (reglan) for the sole purpose of salvaging
breastfeeding."

my questions are do M.D.s REALLY use the PDR as gospel ? is it the main
source of information used in medical malpractice suits ?

Have there been notable cases of the above mentioned side effects ?
Have any of the clients out there actually suffered these sx in your practices ?
How serious have been the results ?

At a major Fla teaching center one of our newest board certified LCs
initiated the use of reglan in a new mom of a premie (I understand the mom
ended up in ICU
for a stroke or something that changed her mental status I don't know the
exact condition . But the attending professor declared she'd never use THAT
again or so I understand ) I'm going to try to gather more data but until
then are there any scary scenarios that none of us would want to repeat
that we need to know about ?
Lastly how do you folks deal with doc statements like these ?

p.s. was parlodel ever FDA approved for the sole purpose of lactation
suppression or was it just a "side effect" that got marketed ? and what
about all that TACE and Deladumone we gave out right and left what did that
do to women's health :"down the road ? could some of THAT STUFF caused any
harm possibly contribute to a progression of our present Breast Ca
rates.......inquiring minds would like to know.....?
