i'd like to add though that i do think the risk of too much sun exposure
is real as well.  probably in large part b/c our diets are so
antioxidant deficient,  but unless a person is going to address that,
then the risk needs to be taken seriously.

for now, i get most of my d from supplements b/c i hate being hot, but
my kids do play in the sun at the part so i apply an ascorbic acid
lotion to their exposed skin while we're at the park or whatever.
there is some evidence that this is beneficial and protects from uvb/uva
damage while allowing d formation.
