I'm a few day's behind in reading Lactnet, but wanted to ask a question
about the which nipple to use disscussion.  I've noticed that several of you
don't like Avent.  We have always reccomended it because of the one-way
valve. When you squeeze the air out of the nipple and then invert the bottle
it stops the dripping so that the baby doesn't get fed unless it is sucking.
No one mentioned other nipples with one-way valves. I've heard of Dr.
Brown's, but haven't personnally tried it.  I think there are other ones as
well.  Isn't it better to have a bottle that doesn't just drip down the
baby's throat and force the baby to keep swallowing?  Also, several people
mentioned prefering nipples with short teats.  I had always thought that the
longer teat on the Avent was good because it got the bay to open wider and
take the nipple deeper into its mouth.  So why the preference for shorter
nipples - wouldn't that increase nipple confusion?  Just trying to clarify
my own thinking on it.  Personally I wish we never had to reccomend a bottle
nipple.
