No Heather I do not think you are being picky, I think you bring up valid concerns. I see it all the time as a Hospital Based LC. Give some formula, or a pacifier, so the Baby will sleep and mother can get some rest. When I show the mother's how to properly do KMC/S 2 S and use a blanket or moby wrap and papoose the baby and explain they can sleep while Baby nurses and cuddles, they are amazed. I point out, you may think you can rest with the Baby in a crib, but subconsciously you worry, so you are really only getting a restless sleep, as compared to KMC, where you know your baby is Ok and you can get a more restful sleep. Also I see so many milk supply issues, I do have the benefit to see them after they go home as we have some outpatient lactation, and I think it is because we, meaning the Hospital environment and process, constantly take the Baby off the Breast, and separate mother/infant. Let them alone and let them do their job, which in the first 3 days is to suckle, a lot, to get lactogenesis going. I mean, come on, what part about being a new parent is not Exhausting, get a grip people, it is tiring no matter what you do, Breast or formula feed, unless you are Madonna or Jolie and you have 3 or 4 full time Nannies.
