Just a note on this. If you are dealing with a baby who is special-needs,
there are often other programs that will pay for certain types of medications
related to the eligible diagnosis (i.e. they would not pay for antibiotics
prescribed for a specific illness, but they WILL pay for prophylactic
antibiotics if the child is immuno-suppressed) and we have had no problem
getting them to pay for Diflucan for my youngest. The crux is that we had to
prove that her susceptibility to fungal infections had to do with one of her
eligible diagnoses.
That may be an option to suggest if you are dealing with that particular type
of situation. MOST special-needs infants could be construed as being immuno-
suppressed on some level and Diflucan would only be combatting a common
problem related to that condition.
(WE've gotten to the point that if antibiotics are prescribed, a scrip for
Diflucan is written at the same time and taken in conjunction.)
On the GV, if the mom is having a problem with it chapping her nipples, or
wants to use it on the baby's bottom, I've found a coating of Lansinoh after
the GV has dried to be VERY helpful.
