Dear friends,
This discussion kept hounting me, making me puzzled and thinking I'm the weirdo.
But this quote from Ann Anderson: ''I have seen those babies who after 30 minutes have taken 0.1oz
These mothers may have been told to just get into bed with their babies and
nurse day and night. They are underweight and disorganized feeders.'' made it clearer. Problem here is that mothers get the wrong advise to begin with. Making milk is not about time spent at breast, but about active and effective time and times spent at breast. Ofcourse an disorganised drinking baby or a baby that is just nuzzling will not transfer milk.

Yes Heather, Mother's supply has either down regulated or never was there in the first
place. Weight loss of 1# below birth weight at 2 weeks is a scary thing. I
saw a baby who nursed all day and night who was a very slow to gain baby.
Everone was encouraging her to feed more frequently (how do you increase
24-7?). Her baby was 2oz above birth weight at 8 weeks! Lucky for her, she
wasactually able to bulid a supply with pumping. (Was this relaction?). that
The baby gained with formula to begin with and more and more pumped
breastmilk. Babies are not always better than pumps. Ann Anderson,NJ .
