Would she consider a gradual move to feeding on the left breast only?  If
the problem was so severe as to cause weaning the last time, she will
probably not continue breastfeeding through a lot of speculation and
exploration.

Perhaps as the right breast lowers in milk production, the pain will cease
and she can maintain some feeding from that breast, if not she can let it
stop production.
