I do not know why they would offer water to a baby to flush out the system.
Where is the evidence for this??
Methadone is approved for use in breastfeeding mothers by the American
Academy of Pediatrics. Up until last fall there was a restriction on the
dose: it was only approved in women taking 20 mg or less. This effectively
prevented breastfeeding in methadone moms. However, the dose restriction was
removed in the most recent version of the AAP Statement on Drugs - so these
moms, providing they are clean of illegal street drugs and of HIV, which are
contraindicated by the AAP - are fully eligible to breastfeed.
