Unless I missed something, all I could find in R & A was a discussion
of tight frenula causing tongue-tie. The baby I'm dealing with right
now has such a tight upper labial frenulum that when we try to get his
upper lip to flange over the breast there is a red crease mark about 2mm
behind the vermilion border. The lower lip doesn't have a tight
frenulum, but there is very restricted movement as the lower lip looks
to be only about 2/3rds or less the width of the upper lip. He can't
seem to form a consistent seal and is causing a lot of nipple trauma.

Positioning him so that more of the chin and nose are in the breast have
helped marginally. going with one breast per feed has helped as mom has
a little longer between "chawing" episodes on the unused nipple.

I'm to talk to the pedi--someone whom I have not worked with
before--tomorrow morning and wanted to have my data all lined up before
I ventured onto unknown territory.

Now this is really Lactnut mania, to be on the ocmputer at this hour of
the night, so I'm out of here and to bed NOW!

Also, check the archives, tons of stuff there.
