Does the research not tell us something different, though,
Sharon...that calorie intake in the mother is not directly related to
milk production?

Mothers may sometimes feel hungrier when bf, and of course they need
to feed themselves according to their perceived needs, but if they
don't, the evidence is that their milk production will be just
fine...as long as they are feeding according to the baby's needs, of
course.

Individual experiences may differ - some mothers may reckon their
production goes down if they skip a meal. But I don't know of any
good evidence that this should be so....willing to hear of any,
though!
