The idea that someone else could remove the milk is not new. I have actually
read somewhere (can't remember if it was fiction or fact) about midwives ages
ago doing just this. It is even mentioned as an option to help with
engorgement in a pregnancy book I have. I have had moms call me with
engorgement tell me "even after my husband sucked" I still have to much milk.
I hear this mostly from Hispanic moms that I talk to. They say it very
matter of fact as if this would be common practice where they come from. I
have never suggested it, but that is because I would have no way of knowing
which mom would take it as a perfectly normal idea and which one would now be
sure breastfeeding was for nuts. (and I don't mean lactnuts) Thanks to my
American upbringing I do have at least a few things I can't quite say out
loud.
