There was a great talk at ILCA from Dr. Bryan Vartabedian, a Pediatric
Gastroenterologist. He also wrote a book titled "Colic Solved". During his
talk he spoke of "Cow Milk Protein Allergy". This is a reaction the infant
had to the Casein and Whey the mother is consuming and then passed through
the breastmilk. "Up to 50% of babies who are allergic to cow's milk will
react to soy protein in a similar way" (Colic Solved, p117). Temporary
elimination of the cow milk proteins (Casein and Whey) from MOM'S diet helps
the infant. It takes about 2-3 weeks to fully clear.

Warmly,

Leigh Erdos, BA, IBCLC, RLC
Chicago, IL
