Hi there. I would suggest increased nursing, encouraging the mother NOT to
put the baby off. Lay off the pacifier. IF there are supply issues, looking
into methods to increase supply. Start solids, but NOT dairy. I would
suggest that she read Jack Newman MD's piece on starting solids, at
www.breastfeedingonline.com. It is quite good. The pacifier has to go,
definitely. Why would she use that when the baby is a slow gainer?

If he is healthy and doing ok otherwise, and just on the low end of normal,
with tiny parents, putting him in the hospital for a calorie count seems
fruitless and disruptive.

He is 7 months old and
>weighs 13# 11oz. His Family Practice Doctor is concerned that he's only
>gained 3 or 4 ounces in the last month. He is tiny (so are his parents)
>but looks good. He is bright and social. He doesn't sit yet, but
>almost :). His MD wants to admit him to the hospital to get a calorie
>count!!! Mom doesn't want that (can't blame her).
