Only anecdotical, Malka. Friend of mine has Guillain Barre, it effect her arms, legs and chest-muscle (so abóve the breasts). It also gives very strange sensations in those areas, like the skin is bubbling. It is getting better now (after years) but it hit hard when she had a baby.

The two biggest issues with breastfeeding were:
- losing of strength in arms and legs. Not a BF-issue per se, but it made it very complicated to handle the baby, breastfeed and be safe - and that all at the same time.
- she was (and sort of is) in constant contact with the neurologist and had regular stays in hospitals to get large doses of all kinds of stuff, like Prednison, but also different things. None of them réally a problem with breastfeeding, but the separation from her baby, the anxiety around the IV's, the lose of trust in her body, the HCPs telling her to quit - thát makes it complicated.

As often, it is not the breastfeeding per se. It is the bigger picture. She has 'lost herself', and that makes life complicated.

Lydia, LLL, Netherlands.

I checked the archives, but see only questions and not answers. Is there any problem with a mother breastfeeding if she has Guillain Barre syndrome? Should it affect milk supply? Mother is home from hospital after a 2 1/2 week stay, is pumping 8 oz. a day ( hasn't been consistent with pumping) and needs therapy. Baby breastfed the first 2 weeks of life. Now mom is eager to resume breastfeeding. Any information will be appreciated. Thank you so much.
