Judy,
Thanks so much for your very supportive post. I also have always told
my husband and children the same thing I quoted you on (above). My husband
tends to be the snob in our family. He shakes his head everytime he sees a
bottle. I have to gently remind him about the formula we give Hagan. He also balks
at strollers or those car seats you can carry around because we have only used
slings. Then I point out, "Honey, we have these puny little babies. Sure it's
easy to carry the teeny Dana babies around."
My point is that I am grateful to Judy for putting out the reminder
that we don't know what led people to make choices or be forced into certain
practices that would not be their first choice. I have actually never bottle-fed
because we had to tube feed. I would have welcomed a bottle for those times
she wouldn't nurse long enough or would get confused about coordinating suck
swallow breathe.
I try to withhold judgment about bottle-feeding. At the same time I
often comment to women breastfeeding in public, "Good for you, "Lucky baby you
have there, " or "Isn't nursing wonderful?" Heather Dana
