Its my day off but got a call from the hospital that they had a patient who
had terrible looking nipples. Pieces were flaking off and the baby could
swallow these and maybe choke on them. Should she breastfeed? This was all
on the phone so I haven't seen her. But asking a few more questions I found
out that she had been to a dermatologist at some point who wasn't too
alarmed, and called them "seedy" nipples.The dermatologist wasn't sure if
she should BF. I asked if a swab had been taken or if she had thought it
might be infectious (herpes etc.). Could it be eczema? What other
possibilities might there be? If non infectious probably the breast milk and
infant saliva will take care of this, Am I right?
