I am not sure why she had milk first and then it decreased, and now it has
increased once the fragment was removed, but who knows how a small piece of
placenta secretes and how much.
At this point in time, since mother is grieving over loss of the
breastfeeding relationship, even though she is pumping, I would encourage
her to attempt to return baby to the breast. I would recommend baby-wearing
and co-bathing and co-sleeping and continue expressing. There are many posts
in the archives on older babies helped to return to breastfeeding. I hope
she will decide to do it.
