Dear Carol,
I know what you mean about some ideas that may be funny but not "pc"
about breastfeeding cartoons, you never know who may find something
offensive. Here are some rough ideas.....1) Getting started: something
about it sometimes takes "4 hands" to get the first feeding
going..picture of LC/nurse and new mother and baby. I have found this to
be true over and over at my hospital, and asked for helped from a nurse
with my 3rd baby (you'd have thought I'd have it down by then).
2) Return to work...perhaps something about milk leaking and this is not
the time to wear one's finest silk blouse, or carrying pumping equipment
in cute case, or picture of pump and expressed milk with words about all
the white blood cells and other germ fighting goodies in mother's milk.
3) If problems arise... picture of telephone and Lactation Center phone #
on refrigerator(?)....something about usually temporary nature of most
problems....or mother thinking how the first week or two were not exactly
easy but is sure easy now.
4) When to wean....picture of Mom and baby both thinking, maybe this is
long enough, or we have enjoyed this for a time and now on to other
things.......something about mutuality in weaning, to consider what is
good for baby as well as Mom. May include AAP recommendations of 12
months of breast milk but there is room for individual choice.
These are just some quick ideas, hope perhaps one of them will be
helpful! Good luck!
