i'm not sure what to make of it (how generalizable are these rather crude
and extreme sentiments?) but the postings on
http://www.cafepharma.com/boards/showthread.php?t=226949
are truly extraordinary -- i think they're worth a 15-minute read.<

Well that was an eye-opener!
I found it interesting that the posters seem to have so little respect
even for members of their own fraternity. The sentiments and language
are both what I would consider to be X-rated.
I was curious as to what they would say about breastfeeding, and found
this gem. Worth reading, just in case anyone is in any doubt that this
is a BUSINESS first and foremost.

Oh I agree with you. So does most of my staff.....But my lactation
consultant says we really should pay for formula & that anyway. She
says the freebies influence our decisions. I don't know...What can I
say? Once this latest article came out in the paper I was helpless to
stop it! My whole staff but one or two hate banthebags.org. But we
can't fight it. Really all of the hospitals are quitting this practice
so we are really not at a disadvantage. Most of our moms breast feed
so they don't really need the formula. She also thinks we should no
longer allow the reps on the floor. Most of us really like our Mead
Johnson Rep. But the LC says this too "negatively influences us".<

>I would tell your lacation consultant that the payment for water,
glucose, formula sould come out of HER budget. Does she realize how
much these products cost a company, even at cost? For a large and busy
nursery, and neonatal unit with thousands of births a year this could
cost the hospital anywhere from tens of thousands to hundreds of
thousands. Right now they are getting this for free. We are LOOKING
for opportunities to make money on hospital feeding systems. Why
jeopardize it? I think the formula companys WILL start to charge if
this trend continues as please understand that Mead Johnson (A BMS
unit) and Ross (a Abbott unit) has to provide profit for our
shareholders.<
