Valerie said it very well that we are not solely responsible for the
decisions moms make. Sometimes we have to learn to "let go" knowing we held
up our end of things.

I think we may deal with far more controlling spouses (and other family
members) than we may realize. It really saddens me to see a mom who really
wants to nurse, but is not able to break away from the controller even
though she may realize that in the long run that would be better for her and
the child. I had a friend and neighbor that was very excited to nurse her
second baby after bottle feeding her first. She was doing well, but had
some questions, so I was visiting her. All the time her husband was asking
things like, did you iron my shirts? When will supper be ready? Etc. Of
course all the time he was just sitting and reading his paper. After all,
he had just come home from a hard day at work. She wound up weaning, no
surprise to me. A few years later he was killed at work when a big piece of
machinery fell on him. I wonder if one reason she had such a hard time
adjusting after that (more than usual) was that there were times she wished
under her breath that he was dead and then felt guilty when it did happen.
