Very interesting.  My informal survey of moms and babies that I saw in 
Detroit (91-93) after a 24 hour discharge was that infants were at or 
slightly below birthweight at 36-48 hrs and at or above birthweight by day 
4.  It is sort of a skewed group as it was only patients I saw.  I don't 
know what other nurses saw.  I always thought it was the lack  of 
interference and separation because they went home so soon after delivery 
:-)  Below birth weight on day 4 became a big red flag to me that BF wasn't 
going well for some reason or another.  I wonder what is seen in other 
cultures?  So much research,, so little time !  Pat in SNJ
