Just a quick question here -- do you ever fill a latex glove with crushed
ice, wrap it in toweling and use it for a perineal ice pack? Never? You
only use the expensive ice packs made for that express purpose? Oh, OK.

The only thing that happens when you use something for which it was "not
intended" is to void the warranty on that particular item. For example, if
you use the inverted syringe as a nipple everter, then you simply cannot sue
the company and claim that the syringe is no longer working as a syringe.

There is at least one anecdotal report of "the worst case of a damaged nipple
I have ever seen...." related to the cutoff syringe. My response to that is
-- just because someone gave an injection incorrectly and caused sciatic pain
(and worse) doesn't mean that no injections are ever given. Care is then
taken to make sure everyone knows how to correctly give an injection. Same
w/ the inverted syringe.

This same document goes on to state that "Using a piece of equipment for
other than its intended purpose invites litigation..." but there is no
citation to back up that statement.

According to ILCA's & IBLCE's legal counsel, this last statement is simply
not true.
