According to one of the articles "The latest American Academy of Pediatrics policy statement on breastfeeding calls on health care professionals to support the efforts of parents and the courts to ensure continuation of breastfeeding in separation and custody proceedings".

Of course, breastfeeding can continue whenever mom and baby are together.

Subject: 18 month old nursing - Custody Issue

PTP - Michigan - Oakland County - Baby boy is 18 mos old, nursing in am and at bedtime, periodically wakes and nurses back to sleep.  Mom is pg w/ #2 and parents are divorcing.  Dad wants overnight visitation.  If boy were not nursing, mom would have no objection to overnight visitation - no abuse issues or concerns with Dad's parenting.  Mom has been told to obtain a letter from a doctor saying continuing to nurse her 18 month old is in his best interest, however, Mom has been unsuccessful in finding a doctor willing to write such a letter - verbally the docs agree with her, however their policy is to not submit anything to the courts in custody cases.  :o(

Any suggestions?  Court date is next Wed, 1/16.
