Hi. I am a 'lurker' who has been in the background for approx. 8 months. The
information I have received from Lactnet is wonderful!

 I am an RN, IBCLC who works both in NICU and a hospital based breastfeeding
clinic. The clinic has been open for almost two years and has been a very
busy, and rewarding place to work. I have had all kinds of new experiences.
Hence, the reason for surfacing, to post this request:

I have recently met with a new mom, who is experiencing vasospasms of the
nipple, after and between feeds. We have tried various positions, warm
compresses after feeds, nipple shells between feeds, all to no avail.

Her GP does not want to prescrbe nifedipine as her BP is normally quite
low-100/60. Mom does not want to try nitro. paste because she is concerned
that it may affect the baby. (Hubbie is also a GP and is concerned re.
nitro)

We have also tried a course of Nystatin just in case its a yeastie-beastie.
No improvement. APNO made no difference.

My questions are: Can those who have experience tell us if this will
continue the entire breastfeeding relationship, or will it resolve? Mom does
not know if she can continue much longer with the pain, but if there were an
end in sight, she might be encouraged to continue.

Are there any articles written that may be of help to both Mom and I?

Is there anything more we can do?
Baby is now 4 weeks old and thriving very well- latch is good although he
did do some 'biting'or clenching which resolved with some work.(2 weeks ago)
