Every now and then, a Lactnet member contributes an article or case  
report on little-known or obscure risks of artificial feeding. Here's  
a new one on me: "Shrinking Bottle Syndrome", reported in the Medical  
Journal of Australia in February of this year.

A feeding bottle had been inadvertently autoclaved, upon which it  
shrunk dramatically, holding only 50 ml when filled to the "120 ml"  
mark. An agency (substitute) nurse dispensed the bottle to the  
mother, and it seems from the report that at least several scheduled  
formula feeds were given from it before anyone noticed the problem.
