Dear Lynn, this would be one time when I would like to know exact intake at the breast via a BabyWeigh Scale. I have seen babies nurse "so well" and be alert and seeming to actively suck. Then the test weight shows a total intake of 10-15 ml only (and this being day 7 or later). Like you, I would be very concerned about this baby and I would like to know exactly how much milk baby is taking from mom to calculate supplements at the breast so weight gain could be initiated. Or, if baby was getting plenty of milk from mom but still showing such poor weight, I would want to know that.

I am very conservative and tend to supplement (at the breast if possible) with weight loss greater than 7% with no weight gain starting yet, no stooling, sleepy baby, and poor intake measured at breast. And of course, referral to the pedi for medical follow-up.
