In response to the following comments:

"From what I have understand this type of pump is not adequate for
increasing a milk supply or maintain on a full time basis. She should be
using a hospital grade pump, the cycling is better."

"Maybe you have the PIS confused with another pump. I know several FT
working moms that use the PIS with great success, adequate supplies and
have never used any formula. It is a double electric."

In the practice where I am training, I have observed both situations and
many subtle variations in between. My general observation is that most moms
do fine using the portable double electrics when they have a well
established milk supply and go back to work. Generally, my supervisors
recommend the large hospital grade pumps when mothers have problems with
production and, in these cases, there is generally an increase in supply.
The cycling and pumping action is different. This could also be related to,
or enhanced by, other recommendations they make for increasing supply.

My supervisors claim most mothers who are working and using the portable
double electrics don't notice any difference when using a hospital grade
pump. I am an atypical case and noticed an increase in supply when I
switched over from a portable double electric to a hospital grade pump in
their office when my son was 11 months old.
