Hello Wise ones

Has any one noticed the number of Tongue-ties recently. (Could they be linked to supplements like Iodine that are now taken)

My concern is the posterior tongue ties that are being diagnosed and would like to ask if you use a special referral process.

Recently it was decided that after a neonate came back to the ward after having" a lip frenulum released" & the baby didn't successfully latch for 24 hours, that we needed to get a second opinion from a pediatrician, I approached the Pediatrician and she said she declined as she didn't feel she had the expertise to comment, when I mentioned the baby had a lip tie she said she didn't believe in them.

As a Lactation Consultant I realize that I can suspect a TT, but not diagnose So should the first referral be to a speech Language therapist, Can the LC give Tongue exercises and can you share any with me.

Sincerely
June Nicholls
