Hi All,

Correct me if I am way off base here, but doesn't the amount of leaking or
the lack thereof (assuming of course there is a good milk supply) usually
have to so with the sphincter muscles in the nipples themselves? The tighter
the sphinter muscles in the nipples, the less leaking (and in some cases NO
leaking) the more relaxed they are the more leaking (hence the laundry
problem).
Anecdotally, I have a cousin-in-law who NEVER leaked, but had a huge milk
supply. Her baby had a hard time at first getting milk from the breast, but
with a little bit of time was able to, I guess, stretch out the mucsles in
the nipples to allow the milk to come thru. Even with a let down, this gal
would not leak! I, on the other hand, leaked like a sieve with both boys!
The thought of BF had me soaked, and with #2, probably because of the severe
nipple trauma, I leaked continuously until the nipples were totally healed,
and then leaked with every let down. This went on for well after his first
birthday. Only after he started eating more solids than BF, and BF was cut
down a bit, did the leaking only happen every now and again.
My .02!

Jay
