I agree that the article wasn't as bad as some I've read, however...

I found the normalization/idealization of bottle feeding extremely
problematic and distressing. Also, there was no discussion about shared
sleep as a great way for mom to get more sleep.

I find it completely irresponsible to drop that ol' chestnut "formula fed
babies sleep longer than breastfed babies" without at least a brief mention
of SIDS and some reasons why ff babies are more susceptible.

Two of the three books mentioned have IME caused breastfeeding failure/early
weaning in mothers who have followed advice contained in said books.
Additionally, to perpetuate the myth that human babies can and should
self-soothe by six weeks unveils a complete lack of child development
knowledge. The way the article is worded, they define nighttime waking as a
sleep disorder! So, if your 4-6 month old isn't "sleeping through the
night" (hello growth spurts and teething), you have an infant with a sleep
disorder?!?

Doctors have no business peddling inaccurate and potentially harmful
information and advice in one of our most respected news outlets. I guess
my standards are too high. Sigh.
