WHO documents state that there are 20 million unsafe abortions every year,
resulting in some 80,000 maternal deaths. From what I read, WHO is aiming to
reduce this appalling toll by encouraging improved health care for women,
particularly in developing countries. Who could argue with that? Fewer
unsafe abortions = fewer deaths = fewer orphaned children.
