Dear Friends:
This story was told to me. I was going through some old records and found it
to share with you. I am glad that this doesn't happen very often!
____________________________________________________________________________
A woman whose pre-pregnancy bra size was 34 B/C grew to 40 F during her
pregnancy. After birth, her breasts looked like cantaloupes, with flat nipples.
A pump was used to bring them out. The baby did latch on about 12 hours
after birth, but not for long. 24 hours later, her breasts were the size of
watermelons and continued to grow. Ice and cabbage leaves were applied
continually, still, the mother was in constant discomfort that required analgesics.
Simultaneous double-pumping with a hospital-grade pump was used for 15 minutes
every two hours; she could release about 2 ounces at a session. The baby never
did breastfeed well. The mother tried, even after hospital discharge but
ended up weaning as her breasts were just too large and uncomfortable to manage.
There was only a slight reduction in breast size after weaning; a reduction
mammoplasty is planned.
warmly,
