I received this question today. Can someone please assist this person? I
have her permission to post her question to the list--please reply to her
by private email as she is not on lactnet (yet?).

Subject: Breast feeding and oral motor development

I am a graduate student in Communicative Disorders (speech
pathology)often the subject of breast feeding come up in my classes, but
is quickly passed over. One professor even dismissed it as a "social
issue" and not something we need to be concerned with. My personal
feeling is that breast feeding can have an impact on a lot of what we
will do as speech pathologists, consequently I am looking for research
supporting my opinion. I have found many opinions that agree with mine,
but little supported by research. I came across and article of yours
during one od my searches and it occured to me to write and ask you if
your have seen or heard of any research supporting a link(or not)
between breast feeding and oral motor development.

Thank you
Catherine Starr
