Have studies controlled for the position of the baby? Do we have
statistics on how many of these deaths occured when a baby was placed
face-down on a pillow or bed?
Most babies co-sleep, either in their mothers' arms or close to her, on
their sides. Some young babies also "kangaroo", sleeping chest-to-chest
on top of their mothers (of fathers, in the case of multiples). It's
difficult to breastfeed with a baby lying on his or her stomach on a
bed.
