I'm supporting a mother who has been diagnosed with Nocturnal Myclonus,
after a savage series of debilitating migraines following years of never
feeling rested no matter how much sleep she got.

Doctor is reccomending neurological agents that will mean she has to
wean, which she is considering. However, the doctor is being less than
'open' about both diagnosis and the drugs involved, to the extent that
when she began to jot down what he was saying to her on her notebook, he
stopped speaking. This prompted her to do some web searching, and
discovered that this diagnosis is also called Periodic Limb Movement
Disorder, and that trycyclic anti-depressants make it worse. As this
doctor has had her on trycyclic anti-depressants for some time, she is
now seeking a new doctor who will support her in breastfeeding matters
and help her get a control on this. She's in the Fort Worth area,
Texas, if that's any help to anyone/knows anyone.

Her direct question is this: does anyone know of any complementary
approaches to this problem that would allow her to continue
breastfeeding in the short term whilst gaining some relief?

She's unsure of the spelling or exact names, but the drugs already
suggested to her for treatment by this Dr and others are: Neurontin,
Sinemet, Clonezapam and Mirapex. Any suggestions for similar drugs that
are compatible with breastfeeding for the longer term treatment, would
be appreciated. (Apologies if those names are jumbled or don't make
sense, this reflects the mother's level of understanding at this point.)

Many thanks

Morgan Gallagher
