Hi Jane and all.............Here's my idea....take it for what it's worth.
How about two or three total sets of several pictures of humans and other
mammals on cardstock cutouts on felt that the kids could match up on a larger
felt board. On each mom write a specific fact about their milk for their
baby, or general advantages that would work for all mammals. For instance,
list a fact about the fat content in Polar Bear or Seal milk that is needed
for those babies in those climates. Maybe list how long each babies depends
on a steady diet of mother's milk. Or general facts, like always the perfect
temperature, no waiting and easily digested. You could do simple line
drawings or cut and paste clip art and put a text box on each mom. Make the
mom and baby identical, and simply make the baby smaller. It would be neat
to have a copy sheet of the moms and babies that each child could take home
with them, maybe color and include the breastfeeding facts on the moms or
just somewhere on the sheet. Does that all make sense?

Another fun thing we have done the past two World Breastfeeding Weeks was to
give out balloons with a "breastfeeding fact tag" hanging off a short piece
of ribbon where the balloon is tied. What is neat about this is that when we
have had our Breastfeeding Health Fair at the local mall, those at the mall
that didn't come specifically for the health fair still want a balloon as
they walk by. So, the general mall traffic probably goes home knowing a
little more about breastfeeding. We always have good foot traffic in the
beginning of August as people get ready to go back to school. Plus, the
bouquet of balloons is an attention getter. The tags list facts like the AAP
guideline, fewer ear infections, Breast milk is the perfect brain food, etc.
I have a sheet of them that I could easily attach to anyone interested.

Have fun!.........Barb Gabbert-Bacon, BGS, LLL Leader, Wichita, Kansas, USA
